West Virginia's Hope Scholarship: The basics

West Virginia's Hope Scholarship gives families state funding to spend on their child's education — including tutoring. The 2026-27 award is $5,435.62 per student, and as of this school year every West Virginia K-12 student is eligible. Funds are held in your Hope Scholarship account and can be used directly with approved providers like us. (See what Hope Scholarship covers.)

The process has its rules — application windows, WVEIS numbers, approved vendors, the EMA/TheoPay platform — but the core idea is simple: the money is yours to spend on what your child actually needs.

What families are saying

"My daughter has been a student since covid. They were and continue to be a lifeline to us. We have worked with several of their tutors and they were all excellent fits for my daughter who really cared about her success and were flexible with our needs and schedule. I am so glad we found them and most highly recommend!"

"My son is high-functioning autistic and has a learning disability. With his tutor's help, he's caught up two grade levels. My daughter, who is also high-functioning, was failing classes. Her tutor has helped her get back on track and she just got a 100 on a test!"

"We have been matched with an excellent tutor for our non-verbal son. She has been with him over 3.5 years. My son is always ready to start the session and the tutor is able to redirect and have him focus on the task at hand. It is a joy to see my son always looking forward to his sessions."

Common questions from West Virginia families

What is West Virginia's Hope Scholarship?

West Virginia's Hope Scholarship is an Education Savings Account program that gives families state funding for their child's education. The 2026-27 award is $5,435.62 per student. As of the 2026-27 school year, every West Virginia K-12 student is eligible — whether they're currently in public school, private school, or homeschool. Funds can be used for approved expenses including tutoring, curriculum, therapy, and more.

How do I use my Hope Scholarship for tutoring?

Once your Hope Scholarship is approved and funded, you can select us as your tutoring provider through the Hope Scholarship online portal. (Learn how to apply if you haven't yet.) After your free consultation and tutor match, we handle billing directly through the EMA platform managed by Student First Technologies. You authorize services and we take care of the rest.

Do I have to pay upfront and wait for reimbursement?

No. We're an approved Hope Scholarship Education Service Provider, which means we bill your Hope Scholarship account directly through the EMA platform. You never pay out of pocket, and you never have to submit receipts and wait for reimbursement.

What diagnoses does Hope Scholarship cover for tutoring?

Hope Scholarship doesn't require a specific diagnosis to use funds for tutoring — tutoring is an approved expense for any eligible student. Our specialty is families whose children have autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, ADHD, dyscalculia, speech and language impairments, executive function challenges, or other learning differences. If your child has an IEP, 504 plan, or documented diagnosis, our tutors are trained for it.

How quickly can we start tutoring?

Most families are matched with a tutor and begin sessions within 1-2 weeks of their initial consultation. We review your child's documentation before the first session so your tutor comes prepared — not learning on the job.

Is tutoring online or in-person?

All tutoring is delivered online via live video sessions. This means access to our full team of specialists regardless of where you live in West Virginia — from Charleston to Morgantown to Martinsburg to rural counties. Sessions are scheduled around your family's availability.
